20 Short and Powerful Gratitude Prayers for Everyday
Our thankful gratitude prayers connect our hearts to God and refocus our eyes on the good things He is doing in our lives.
When I was young I watched Veggie Tales, a show where little fruits and vegetables taught kids lessons about God and living your life according to the Scripture. Whenever I think about gratitude I remember “Madame Blueberry” and her stuff obsession and the sweet little song Junior Asparagus sang “Because a grateful heart is a happy heart. I thank God for what I have, that’s an easy way to start.”
How do you express your gratitude to God?
Thankfulness is a simple, but powerful habit. Prayers of gratitude should be a regular part of our prayer life as a believer. Cultivating a heart of thanksgiving changes our perspective on life.
It can help us be hopeful and joyful instead of bitter and defeated. Prayers of gratitude can be written out, spoken aloud, prayed silently, sung in worship songs, and tracked in a gratitude journal.

What is a morning prayer of gratitude to start your day with?
- Thank you God for your steadfast love for me–coming up today, just like the morning sun. Thank you for another day to be alive, to love You and receive Your love for me. Thank you for the gifts you bring into my life each day–thank you for my spouse, my children, my job, my health, my salvation. Keep me aware of your blessings today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
- Thank you God for this new morning–for the sunrise, for the breath in my lungs, for my family, for good health, for the whole world–awake for another day with You and because of You. Give me today my daily bread. In difficult times may I still choose thankfulness, still choose to see your good in the world. I give thanks today for all You’re about to do. Amen.
- God, give me an attitude of gratitude today. My flesh is wanting grumpiness and ungratefulness, but I want what YOU want for me. I want to be thankful. Give me fresh eyes to see all I already have. Thank you for _______________ (one tangible good thing in your life– aka a cup of coffee, a job to work, my kids in their bed). Your goodness is all around me; help me look for it today. Amen.
What is a worship song of gratitude to God I can pray?
Worship songs are a great way to speak and sing our thanksgivings to God!
One of my favorite thankful worship songs is Your Name by Paul Baloche. You can sing or simply listen to this song as a thankful prayer to God. It begins “As morning dawns and evening fades, You inspire songs of praise, that rise from earth to touch your heart and glorify your name. Your Name is a strong and mighty tower. Your Name is a shelter like no other. Your Name, let the nations sing it louder ’cause nothing has the power to save, but Your Name.”
One of my other most-loved thankfulness songs is Million Little Miracles by Maverick City Music. This song reminds me of the daily provision God brings and the power of gratitude in and for the little things in life.
One upbeat and fun song that is full of thankfulness is Thank You Lord by Thomas Rhett, Florida Georgia Line, and Chris Tomlin. It’s a super fun celebration of all the ways God works in our lives that we often take for granted.
What is a short prayer for thanksgiving day or a thanksgiving celebration?
Thank you, gracious God for the people gathered around this table today. For the gifts you’ve given us and the ways you’ve worked individually in our lives and together as a family. Thank you for your faithfulness to this family in big and small ways. We are thankful each and every day for the gift of salvation and the love you’ve bestowed on us all. Amen.
