Busy Isn’t Better
Busy isn’t better.
Sometimes I think we like to stay busy because it makes us feel important. And useful. And worthwhile. Like having a planner full of appointments proves you are valuable.
But the most important people don’t care if you’re important.
Sometimes you just have to slow down…take the time to realize that every moment is just a moment and be busy about the things that really matter. Things like having room in your schedule for impromptu beach days, friends, baby giggles, pizza, and sand.
It may mean we volunteer less, work less, earn less, blog less, tweet less, watch less, see less of some people—so we can really be present to the ones that matter.
But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it and it will not be taken away from her.” –John 10:41-42

This was a really great reminder for me. Thanks, Katie!
Of course! Miss you!! I’m ready to get back to Awaken after summer. 🙂
Count NOT agree more with you!!
I learned that lesson a few years ago and have tried to simplify life. I am naturally a busy loving person–so it’s good for me to remind myself of the importance of simplifying!
SO AGREE WITH THIS. I find I’m spreading myself way too thin lately, which means no one is getting me at my best!
Ugh. I hate that! Do you ever watch Parks and Rec? There’s a great Ron Swanson quote from it “Never half ass something. Whole ass one thing.” Funny and true!
Great point and such a good reminder for everyone. I often need to tell myself to slow down and enjoy the present- I am a planner so I am constantly thinking about “what’s next”!
Yes! “Be here now” is another good way a friend put it recently.
I love this. Busy isn’t always better. I want to actively work on making my weekends less busy. They’re so much fun, but don’t involve a lot of time to relax!
I feel like one busy weekend and then one slooow weekend is a good balance for me.
Your daughter is beyond adorable. And I feel ya on this…I’ve been traveling a lot between pleasure and work and my routine has been thrown off. No working out and no healthy eating. It’s screwed up my attitude and I can’t wait to get back to normal soon!
I’m sure you will soon! I can’t wait to see all your wedding pics–you were such a beautiful bride!
Great post. So true. Making time for those who are important to you is a top priority.
I totally agree! Such a good post! Thanks for linking up for MMG and sharing 🙂
BEAUTIFULLY SAID friend!
Totally agree! Us New Yorkers have this issue a lot. We always feel in a rush to get somewhere and are always doing something. Nice to stop and take a deep breath.
Thanks for linking up with MMG!
