The Ultimate Healthy Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate
Cozy in with this delicious and dairy-free peanut butter hot chocolate! It’s the perfect cold weather warm up!
As winter approaches I generally grit my teeth and just “get through”, but I read an article the other day that made me reevaluate my relationship with winter. ย The piece talked about how Norwegians actually enjoy and thrive during the crazy cold months they experience. ย The article states:
“It turns out that in northern Norway, ‘people view winter as something to be enjoyed, not something to be endured,’ says Leibowitz [the author], and that makes all the difference.”
In fact,ย the Norwegians have a word for all the sense of coziness the cold weather brings….koselig. I love that don’t you? There is just something about snuggling down in soft blanket with a mug of cocoa and watching the snow fall that is peaceful and beautiful.
The quiet winter nights help us focus on what is truly important….family and friends and sharing simple moments with them. Winter makes me think of the still, small voice of God, whispering to us on the chilly nights that He is our warmth, our provider, and protector. The crisp air can be invigorating and a deep snow let’s me see my ordinary world as a magical.
If I ย spend all winter wishing for spring, I miss all that.
I miss the joy of “koselig” season. So for all of you who are ready to dig deep and find the joy this winter, I have a delicous recipe to get us started… Light Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate.
Peanut butter and chocolate…a match made in heaven, am I right?! When it gets cold this is one of my go-to hot drinks for getting cozy! Use whatever milk and sugar type you are most comfortable with. I recently got some Truviaย (affiliate link)ย and I’m enjoying trying it out in my favorite recipes. This recipe also calls for a great ingredient, PB2ย (affiliate link), which is a powdered peanut butter with the oil removed so the fat content is altered.
I love throwing this in things like my Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie or oatmeal for a little extra peanut butter flavor!

It’s delicious! Hope you enjoy Liz.
Ok I totally have PB2 power in my pantry right now. I never thought to add it to hot chocolate. You are brilliant! I’ve been craving something warm and decadent lately after dinner! Thanks!
Yes! You can just add a Tablespoon or to taste in your regular mix packet for a similar taste! YUM! I almost always just make mine from scratch because I always have those ingredients in the pantry. ๐
ohhhh this looks delicious! I cant wait to try this out on one of the [many] snowy days in our near future. anything chocolate + peanut butter is an instant “win” for me; I cant wait to cozy up by the fire and sip on this!
I agree! The snowy days are made so much better by pb and chocolate!
Yummy!! I have a jar of PB2 in my pantry just dying to be used and I’m thinking this would be a fantastic afternoon treat. Thanks for sharing!
You cannot go wrong with PB & chocolate.
Amen sister!
I love making things with PB2, it’s my fave! Peanut butter and chocolate combos are my absolute favorite. I’d love to try this sometime ๐
It’s a great combo and PB2 is perfect in this recipe! Let me know if you give it a try!
I don’t have any PB2 or Truvia. Is it possible to make it with regular Jiff pb? THis sounds incredible and I want to try it so badly!
Well, I made some hot cocoa really quick and added about 1/2 tablespoon of Jiff pb. It is wonderful! I love this and can’t wait to make it for my son and my sister. Thanks for the idea ๐
Yay! Glad it worked out for you!
I love adding peanut butter to my hot cocoa! It’s actually one of my favorite homemade dry mixes to have on hand and to give as gifts but I usually use peanut butter chips that have been pulverized. I definitely need to try the powders as I have a jar or two already.
Yes, the PB2 poweder makes it super easy and would be a great addition to a homemade mix!
I keep PB2 in the cabinet because I’m on Weight Watchers and I never thought to use it in drinks… till now! Thanks for the great idea! New follower! Come say hi sometime! http://www.facebook.com/thehappyidiot
Yes! I really like to add it and a banana to my vanilla smoothie! I have the recipe for that here too: https://chasingvibrance.com/2015/06/29/banana-peanut-butter-smoothie/
I do love that.
In the valley of Oregon, where I live, we don’t often get snow (there’s lots in other parts of the state), but we do get rain. Lots of it. The days are dark and wet. I’d trade several of those for a few snow days. Yes, yes I would.
Nutrition info states 36 carbs–is this with reg milk or almond milk? We are on keto and use unflavored almond milk a lot but 36 carbs is WAAAY over what we allow…sounds wonderful and would love to try it in Northern Michigan when the weather turns icey!
It will always vary based on the milk you use. The best way to calculate is to input your exact measurements and ingredients into whatever calculator app you like to use best.
