Hey there! I thought I would share some of my May goals with you today! It’s crazy to look back a year ago and see what my goals were—some different, but some the same!
May 2014 Goals
- Run a 5K! K5K (local race in Kalamazoo) with my brother and sister—it was my brother’s first 5k last year when we did it. Who else want’s to join?
- Strength train 2-3 times a week
- Build core strength to hold a plank for 2 minutes (using my little daily routine)
- Go on at least one date night with Nate sans baby girl
- Continue to eat healthy: focus on eating 5+ fruits or veggies a day and planning for a weekly treat I truly enjoy.
- Continue breastfeeding Layla
You may notice that I’ve taken off any kind of weight loss goal or even inches. Yes, that was VERY purposeful. After my frustration the last weeks with not seeing progress or the changes I want in the time I want, I’ve decided it’s emotionally best for me to avoid those types of goals right now. My post-baby body is different. My breastfeeding metabolism is different. Because of that I need to focus my energy on healthy living goals that are within my direct control and ability to accomplish.
It’s more of a whole-self focus. Less of a staring at the scale wishing it would move or move faster. More praise for my body for what it has and is accomplishing (running, lifting, breastfeeding, having a baby!) instead of focusing on what my body is not (skinny, stretch mark free, an “ideal” number, someone else’s post-pregnancy body).
I finally got my new sports bra so I can really start running again. Last night I did Run 2-Walk 3 intervals with Layla in the stroller. It felt so good! I feel so very “me” when running. I hope that makes sense to some of you. Here’s my workout plan for the week:
Wednesday: Strength Train
Thursday: Run/Walk in the morning
Friday: Rest/Travel to Cedarville for my sister’s graduation
Saturday: Becca’s graduation!
Sunday: Walk/Run—We’re having an open house all afternoon at camp so I’m not sure if that is realistic but I’d like to do something.
Monday: Strength Train
While I’d love to think that I will still squeeze in a workout Friday or Saturday, the truth is we have a jam-packed schedule celebrating my sister’s graduation from college (if you want a super-smart, super-cute accountant I know where to find one!) and helping her get moved.
Crazy how fast this month has flown by, but I feel like I say that every month! Guess that is how life works—this is probably why I was crying the other night because Layla is growing up so fast and I just love where she is right now. I wish I could freeze time or at least slow it down considerably. It seems like just yesterday Becca was starting college and just the day before that I was graduating myself. Crazy. Oh well—since I can’t slow it down I’ll just enjoy every moment!
Do you have any goals for this month?
Anyone else want to chime in with super-sentimental feelings?
