I had a great Memorial Day Weekend…
On Friday I spent most of the day getting ready and helping with our Memorial Day Weekend Conference at camp. It’s fun to see all the energy and enthusiasm that comes with the change from “retreat season” to “family camp season”.
It was also really fun to be a part of the worship team this weekend. I was a little nervous before each time, but it’s surprising what a little practice and just allowing yourself to be in the moment will do for your nervousness!
It was also really fun to have 3 of my sibs up hanging out/running/working this weekend!
Super-flattering mid-race pic with Josh.
Becca and Davy working hard on the “Quad”– our zipline and ropes course.
Nate is waaay up there on the left side helping a camper at the top of the zipline.
Another major blessing was to sit under the teaching of amazing Bible teacher and student of Jewish traditions, Ray VanderLaan. My mind exploded multiple times during the sessions! RVL has a great way of unpacking the Bible in the Eastern context that makes familiar Bible stories come alive with new meaning and application. I highly recommend checking out his videos and online resources! (And of course, coming to Memorial Day Weekend 2015 at Gull Lake Ministries!)
The big truth I walked away from the Bible teachings was:
God calls his children to put Him on display, bringing shalom (peace, order, “rightness”) to chaos wherever He has uniquely called them to be.
It was very challenging to get out of my comfort zone in showing kindness to others and also to recognize that wherever I am God has specifically planned for me to be there to show His love to someone in chaos.
There was so much more and I could ramble on for hours, but it was an awesome weekend—a taste of summer and I’m definitely excited for more! I can see it will be a challenge to find a rhythm in the summer schedule, but I’m sure Nate and I will figure it out!
Hope you had an amazing weekend too!
