Well we certainly enjoyed our whirlwind trip to Iowa last Wednesday-Friday. My brother and sister in law and the three nephews were “close”, relatively speaking so we hopped over to visit them while we could!
We enjoyed lots of classic family togetherness: going to parks, playing baseball, poot time, ice cream, throwing rocks in the river, reading books, wrestling, and hugs.
We both “met” our nephew Judah for the first time too. He’s a keeper, for sure!
It was a long drive back home, but we made it back Friday night and enjoyed a night of rest before a full weekend of fun and work!
On Saturday morning I went to an organic strawberry farm and picked 10 quarts of strawberries!
It was a great little farm in Battle Creek that one of my coworkers parents own. If you’ve never gone strawberry picking before it really is a fun experience to hunt for the berries and see your containers fill up!
After a pretty dismal year for strawberries in Michigan last year, it was so great to see the big berries! And I paid $2.00 a quart for these fresh, local, organic beauties. It took about 1 1/2 hours to pick them all and it was a nice cool morning for it too.
My sweet mom was here in the afternoon and she helped me hull (cut off the tops) and slice most of them so they were all in the freezer by the end of the day! Mom for the win! It will be so nice to enjoy the taste of fresh berries all year round!
The rest of the weekend I’ve spent playing catch up around the house and yard. It seems like everything needed washed, cleaned, folded, vacuumed, or trimmed. Hope you had a great weekend too!
Have you ever gone to a U-Pick berry place? I’m hoping to pick some blueberries this summer too!
What’s your favorite type of berry? I’m crazy about strawberries and blueberries, bur fresh raspberries really can’t be beat!
