7 Exciting Fitness Activities to Try this Summer
Weโve sat around all winter waiting for it so letโs get out and get active!ย Check out these 7 exciting fitness activities to try this summer!
1.) Paddle Boarding
Using a board similar to a surf board you stand and paddle providing a great core and arms workout! If Jillian Michaels is a fan you know itโs got to be good!ย Our camp has a set and as soon as the water warms a bit (because I KNOW I will fall in!) Iโm going to be out paddling!
2. Mud Run
Whether itโs a national scale big deal race, an all girls event like Pretty Muddy (join me in Chicago in September!!), or a local run for charity Iโm pumped to be running at least one, but maybe more mud runs this summer! Does anyone local want to be on a team with me for the Kalamazoo Mud Run?
3. Pickleball
If youโve been a reader here at Kate Moving Forward youโve heard me mention that Nate and I love to play pickle ball!ย Pickleball is a played with a tennis net, whiffle ball, and large wooden paddles similar to ping pong paddles.ย The ball is easier to direct than tennis and you are in a smaller court so it is more manageable, but you can still get a great workout with your spouse, friend, kid or grandpa! A lot of parks and ymcaโs are starting to have more pickle ball courts.
4. Geocaching
I had a lot of fun with this last year! I would use geocaching (finding a small object at a marked location using GPS) as a way to teach my clientsโ patience, following directions, and to get them out in nature! Although it can be frustrating if you are wondering around in the woods where a cache is supposed to be and you canโt find it!ย You can download simple geocaching apps on your smart phone and find local spotsโthere is probably one close enough to make a good adventurous walk and satisfy your inner treasure-hunter!
5. Trampolines
Well of course you could get a lame little one and bounce in your basement, or you could put one in your backyard, but why not visit a giant indoor trampoline park!ย You could spend hours literally jumping off the walls in a nice cushioned environment where you donโt have to worry about tripping into the springs, flipping over backward, and then dangling by your leg until your siblings finally stopped laughing long enough to help you out of your contortions. You may have to drive a bit to find one (closest one to me is an hour away) but totally worth it!
6. Aqua Zumba
Thatโs right! Zumba in the waterโbasically a pool party cardio session!ย I read about this on the Fitnessista and thought it sounded actually less intimidating than regular Zumba, maybe because your underwater and so if you mess up the moves no one really notices.ย The water actually provides a level of resistance training to Zumba and you watch the instructor doing the moves on dry ground so you can fully see what they are doing and copy it. You can find an Aqua Zumba class near you easily using the Zumba website!
7. Paintballing
I know itโs really probably had itโs heyday, but there is nothing like the adrenalin-pumping fun of being chased around the woods by your friends threatening you with bruises.ย All that running and army crawling will torch tons of calories too!ย Itโs been awhile since I played paintball, but I will attest to the fact that it doesnโt hurt that bad when everyone abides by regulation and plays fairโI never got welts and I bruise easily.ย One of the most fun I had in college was playing paintball at an old junkyard!
Have you tried any of these 7 exciting summer activities? Any youโd love to do this summer? Want to run a mud run with me?

I really want to try paddle boarding. Maybe I will try it this summer!
I have a secret mini-goal to do all these this summer. ๐ We’ll see how it goes!
Love geocaching! So much fun! And I really want to try SUP boarding now that I live so close to the beach ๐
That would be cool.
I haven’t tried any of these, but they all look like so much fun. I would really love to try the Aqua Zumba ๐
These are so GREAT! I love how different they are and they sure do look like fun.
Aren’t they fun!?! There really is SO much just a little outside of the box!
I tried paddle boarding last summer/fall and cannot wait to do it again.
TRAMPOLINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man I miss them!! I wanna go RIGHT NOW ๐
Highly recommend trying out stand up paddle boarding this summer, it is an amazing workout AND so much fun being out on the water. I’ve been doing it for years and LOVE IT!
Did you fall in a lot when you first started? We have some here on our lake I can use, but the water is still super-cold and I don’t want to fall in! haha!
Great list! I just tried pickleball last summer and was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable it was. One thing I noticed right away was that it’s an incredibly social sport – friendly people having fun…I’ll admit, I’m totally hooked on it.
It IS super-fun! And simple enough to pick up on quickly! Glad you are loving it!
Trampolining is probably the best exercise you can get as it detoxifies your lymph nodes. According to a Nasa study, jumping on a trampoline for 10 minutes is equivalent to a 30-minute run, giving you the same benefits in a third of the time.
Cool to see that you included pickleball. on your list. Even though it’s considered the fastest growing sport in the US a lot of people have no idea what I’m talking about when I tell them I play.
It’s such a fun game!
