Weekend in Chicago
Hey there! How was your weekend?
We had an awesome weekend in Chicago! We started off on Friday driving to Ikea and exploring there. We are probably moving camp houses this fall so we wanted to get some good ideas for space-saving and other options. We learned that the real trick to maximizing space in a small house is just to put shelves everywhere!
After that we drove to our hotel downtown, Holiday Inn on the river, to check in. Our room was awesome! The views were spectacular because we were on the corner of the 22nd floor! We literally just opened the curtains and stared for awhile.
Then we went down Michigan Ave and went to some shops and then had dinner at Dittka’s steakhouse. It was super-yummy! I had filet mignon sliders and Nate had a meatloaf stack.
After that we took Miss Layla back to the hotel and enjoyed the view of the city at night.
The next morning we had breakfast at our hotel and then went to Make’n Music guitar shop. It’s a little boutique place in a cool industrial building that has lots of fancy guitars. There was one guitar for $27,000 and the one Nate really liked was $4050. And lots of cool rock stars go there. The guys at the desk told us that John Mayer stopped by last week.
After that we went to Lou Malnati’s pizza for some deep dish! You can’t go to Chicago and not get deep dish pizza! We are normally Gi0darno’s Chicago pizza people, but we may be converted.
Once we were all full of delicious pizza we headed down to the Shedd Aquarium, which we had never been to before. It was really cool! We just got the basic admission which was perfect for us, especially Layla. I love aquariums, but I’m not going to lie at some point a fish is just another fish.
After spending a few hours at the museum we drove around by the lakeshore a little bit and then headed home. Of course, we stopped in Merrilville and got Dickey’s barbecue, it’s becoming a traditional way-home stop!
We had a great getaway in Chicago! It was a nice blend of doing stuff and relaxing! Now we are back and in our last week of family camp! It’s crazy how fast the summer has flown! I’m linking up today to Marvelous in My Monday as well! Go over and check out what other fun stuff folks are up to!
What did you do this weekend?
Have you ever been to Chicago? What do you love there? I geek out all over the architecture. I’m constantly staring up and around noticing so many details on the buildings!
I MISSSSS Chicago and my sister.
both are…in chicago 🙂
You’ve got some good reasons to visit!!
Looks like ya’ll had a fabulous time. Great pictures and awesome view from your hotel room. We live in IL (out in the NW burbs) and don’t spend enough time in the city. Must change that!
We try to do a “tourist” weekend once a year; even though we’ve been lots there is still lots of fun things to do!
What a fun trip! I want to try Chicago deep dish!
Your life will be forever changed.
So delectable! That appears to be irresistible.
