Ready to Rock: Chicago Rock n Roll 5K

Rock n Roll races are supposed to be one of the most fun race series around with live bands, crazy cheer sections, and finish line parties! I’ve always wanted to run one.

And remember in my 2015 goals midyear checkin where I said wanted to run an additional 3 races this year? Yeah, but I hadn’t signed up for any more yet as I was looking for “the perfect race”…..

Chicago Rock n Roll 5K

Well I am so excited to say that this weekend I will be running the Rock n Roll 5K in Chicago!! Woohoo! I love Chicago and the 5K is running right along Millenium park so it will be glorious! The course goes right along the lakeshore, loops back through the park to the finish. Afterwards there is a big party, of course! I am pumped!  This was kind of last minute so I’m a little bummed Nate and I can’t make a whole long weekend of the trip, but as long as we get deep dish pizza I’ll be happy. 🙂

There are so many reasons why I am pumped to participate:

1. Chicago. Enough said. Chicago

2. Humana, a health insurance company, is one of the sponsors and I love that they are promoting healthy living and FUN through this race! They actually have 200 employees cheering and running during the race weekend!

3.  #RockYourHealth hashtag to share positive stories and inspiration on social media about how and why you run!

You don’t have to be an uber athlete to #RockYourHealth, it’s just about making simple, positive changes to improve. #RockYourHealth is also about encouraging others, as we know how contagious positivity can be!

4. Humana Vitality Cheer Squad lets people send encouraging messages to runners that are displayed on screens when they hit the 12 mile mark of the half marathon. Uh, how cool is that!? It almost makes me wish I was running the half. 😉

5. This race series and message fits me right now. Honestly, I’m not running for time or distance or to prove anything. I’m just running to have fun and stay fit!  To me, that’s what #rockyourhealth is all about: pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, taking it one day at a time, and celebrating success!

I’m sure after this race and expo I will have the half marathon running bug BAD! But that’s not an awful thing, right? Wish me luck this weekend! I’ll be posting on all the social media so if you’re not already be sure to follow me on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram for the play-by-play! You can also check out the #RockYourRun hashtag to find more runners and their inspiring stories!

Do you run for fun or like the thrill of competition?

Have you ever done a Rock ‘n’ Roll Race?
