I am a mom to a BUSY 18 month old! She seriously never stops! Keeping up with her is a workout in itself somedays. I know as a mom it can be hard to get workouts in, but when I think not about “hitting the gym” but being more active I realize that there are a ton of opportunities staring me in the face. Here are some of my favorite ways to be active WITH my daughter.
1.Going for walks. Yes, the classic. When we walk I like to point out things in the neighborhood or just chat about our day. I sometimes add in power-walking or jogging intervals to make our walks more intense or find a hilly road. Pushing a 25 pound baby up a hill is no joke.Â
2. Playing on the playground (or beach or soccer field or wherever you happen to be). Depending on the playground we go to I am normally chasing Layla back to the playground, spotting her on climbing equipment, and running around with her. It may be easier to just chill on a bench, but all that movement adds up. Kids are naturally active and they crave adults in their lives having FUN with them not just watching them have fun!
3. Playing a sport together. You may just be throwing a frisbee or kicking a playground ball, but you are teaching your kiddo important large motor skills, plus sportsmanship and cooperation. Since Layla has zero aim I get extra activity chasing down her wild throws! If your kids are older you can practice their sports with them or coach their team or share your favorite active hobby with them like hiking, canoeing, rock climbing, or biking. Â I have friends whose older kids are running races, doing triathlons, and biking with them! That’s a stage that will be so much fun too!
4. Active Family Fun. Opt for putt-putt or the trampoline park instead of a movie night. There are lots of fun ways to stay busy as a family like going to the zoo, swimming at the pool, gardening, playing Wii games or a competitive game of family kickball. You will probably make amazing memories along the way!
In addition to challenging me to stay active when I’m with her, my super-mobile little girl challenges me work on my fitness goals so I can be healthy and active with her for a long time. My family is my driving force to stay in shape! I need to be strong to lift and carry her, speedy so I can chase her down, and flexible so I can balance it all.
I recently switched to Huggies Little Movers diapers for my active girl. I love that they are still super-absorbant with new Dry Touch which absorbs on contact, and they have extra flex in the wasitband and near the legs to move with her as she climbs, runs, and scrambles around. I picked up the Huggies Little Movers at Babies”R”Us, they have so many great baby products it’s hard to browse for awhile! The Little Movers are with the other diapers and wipes.  That snug fit that moves with her has been great for keeping her dry and preventing leaks or blowouts. Little Movers actually have a 12 hour leak lock, which keeps her nice and dry all night long. I always find that buying cheaper disposable diapers really does me no favors.
These diapers are quality! Plus they have Mickey and Minnie Mouse on the front, who doesn’t want that?
