Finger Paint Gift Wrapping

I love finding the perfect gifts for my family–it’s kind of a rush to buy a gift and give a gift, but a big piece of gift giving for me is the wrapping. I enjoy making each gift unique and beautiful with wrapping paper, tape, and bows.

The other morning I was feeling creative so I rounded up some supplies and my two babies and we made some finger paint gift wrap. I used their feet and hands to create one of a kind wrapping paper that is sure to thrill any parent, grandparent, or special aunt or uncle. I think I may even save some of this wrapping paper and frame it when the gifts have been opened as a keepsake! (<<<also a great idea for a grandparent!)

To make your own finger paint gift wrap assemble the following supplies:

  • -plain wrapping paper (white, silver or brown like mine will work best)
  • -finger paints in various colors
  • -marker
  • -Scotch® Magic™ Tape 3 Pack Caddie
  • -presents to wrap!

Spread out the wrapping paper, right side up. Depending on the thickness of the wrapping paper you may need to put a piece of paper, brown paper bag or something underneath your wrapping paper so the paint doesn’t bleed through.

Outfit your children in aprons or smocks. Or let them go shirtless. Things are going to get a little messy. But you’re okay with that cause you’re a cool mom, right?! Right! fingerpaint christmas lightsFor the string of lights: Using fingers create a chain of paint-prints across the wrapping paper. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but a loose linear fashion helps. Once it dries go back with your marker and add in string.

finger paint snowmen

For the snowmen: Using blue or white finger paint dab 3 fingerprints one on top of the other in the middle of the paper. Once dry draw in hats, buttons, smiles, arms, and snowflakes.

fingerpaint reindeer

For the reindeer: Grab the cutest baby you have. Remind them how much they love you as you smear brown finger paint on their wiggling foot. Press foot down onto center of wrapping paper. Repeat. Use a q-tip or just the tip of your finger to make a red dot on the heel of the foot for the nose. Let dry. Draw on antlers and eyes.

Fingerpainting Christmas

For the Christmas trees: Use marker to draw outline of Christmas trees in the center of a piece of wrapping paper. Let your child go wild dotting in color and “ornaments”.

After paint of the wrapping paper has fully dried center finger painting on top middle of your package. Affix sides of paper together using the Scotch® Magic™ Tape 3 Pack Caddie or Scotch® Gift Wrap Tape 3 Pack Caddie. (I picked them up at my local Wal-Mart because you can never have too much tape around during Christmas! I found mine in the holiday section. You can stock up on Scotch® Brand wrapping products and get a 50% bonus, plus Rollback! ) Fold up ends and tape again.

Use raffia or ribbon to make bow, if desired. (Use bow and ribbon to hide “less than perfect” areas, but then again, those are what make it cute and unique!)

We had a lot of fun creating this beautiful finger paint gift wrap! Such a fun and easy project (just as long as mom checks her perfectionist nature at the door) to get your children involved in the giving spirit of the season!
